Southampton Relegated from Premier League After Setting Unwanted Record
Southampton Football Club has been officially relegated from the 2024/25 Premier League season, marking one of the most dismal campaigns in the history of the competition.
The Saints’ relegation was confirmed following a 3-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Sunday, April 6, 2025. The loss etched their name into the wrong side of the record books, as they became the first club ever to be relegated with seven matches remaining in the season.
This unfortunate milestone breaks the previous record held by Derby County, who were relegated in the 2007/08 season with six games to spare.
Following the defeat to Spurs, Southampton remains anchored to the bottom of the Premier League table with just 10 points from 31 matches—a run of form that has sealed their fate well before the season’s conclusion.
