Liam Delap’s return date from injury confirmed

Speculation has been mounting online regarding the potential return date of Chelsea forward Liam Delap following his recent injury setback.

Fresh reports suggest that the young striker is now aiming for a November comeback after medical scans confirmed he would not require surgery on the hamstring problem he picked up just before the international break.

Delap was forced off the pitch during Chelsea’s victory over Fulham, an incident that left fans concerned about the severity of the issue. At the time, manager Enzo Maresca estimated the 21-year-old could face up to eight weeks on the sidelines. However, subsequent examinations have brought positive news, with doctors ruling out the need for an operation.

The updated recovery timeline means Delap is expected to resume training by mid-November 2025. If all goes according to plan, his return will coincide with the start of Chelsea’s congested festive fixture schedule — a crucial period in their campaign where his presence could prove vital in boosting the squad’s attacking options.

The projected recovery timeline for Liam Delap places Chelsea’s Premier League trip to Burnley on November 22 as a realistic target for his return. That fixture comes just three days before a high-profile Champions League showdown with Barcelona at Stamford Bridge, meaning the 21-year-old could be back in contention for two crucial matches if his rehabilitation continues without setbacks.

Based on current estimates, Delap is expected to miss approximately 13 games across all competitions, including key clashes against Bayern Munich in Europe, as well as domestic showdowns with Manchester United and Liverpool. His absence has forced Chelsea to make adjustments in attack.

The Blues recalled Marc Guiu from his loan spell at Sunderland to provide additional depth up front, while João Pedro remains entrusted with leading the line during this period. Despite speculation, the club opted against signing a short-term replacement, though Strasbourg forward Emmanuel Emegha is being closely monitored as a long-term option for a potential move to Stamford Bridge next season.

While Delap’s situation is trending positively, Chelsea’s injury concerns have deepened elsewhere. Promising midfielder Dário Essugo has undergone surgery on a thigh injury after being forced to withdraw from international duty with Portugal’s U21 squad. Unlike Delap, no timeline has yet been established for Essugo’s recovery, leaving manager Enzo Maresca with another setback to navigate in the months ahead.
