His devastated father, Kaushallya De Alwis, revealed the heartbreaking details of the night Dinal disappeared, recounting the messages his son left for the family. Despite his academic achievements and sporting prowess, Dinal succumbed to the immense pressure and shame inflicted by the online extortion.
The blackmail, originating from Nigeria, unfolded in the form of explicit images sent to Dinal along with coercive messages demanding payment.
In response, Dinal, mistakenly assuming the pictures had already been disseminated, chose to end his life. Efforts by the police and the National Crime Agency to trace the blackmailer proved futile, highlighting the challenges posed by online perpetrators operating across borders.

In the wake of this heartbreaking incident, the De Alwis family hopes to prevent similar tragedies by urging parents to be vigilant and advocating for improved online safety measures.
