Cristiano Ronaldo has officially confirmed that the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be his final appearance on the global stage, marking the closing chapter of one of football’s most extraordinary careers.

The 40-year-old Portuguese legend, who has scored an astonishing 953 goals across club and international competitions, made the revelation during an interview at the Tourism Summit in Riyadh. Ronaldo also hinted that his retirement from professional football could come within the next one or two years, depending on his form and fitness.

When asked directly whether the upcoming World Cup—set to take place across Canada, Mexico, and the United States—would be his last, Ronaldo gave a decisive response:

“Yes, definitely. I’ll be 41 then, and I believe that will be the right time to step away from the big competitions.”

Currently playing for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, Ronaldo continues to defy age with his performances and goal-scoring consistency. He remains the highest-scoring male international footballer in history, with 143 goals for Portugal, and is still driven by the personal goal of reaching 1,000 career goals before hanging up his boots.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner, whose glittering club career has included spells at Sporting CP, Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus, reflected candidly on his timeline:

“To be realistic, when I say soon, it means probably one or two more years in the game,” he said.

Ronaldo’s career has been defined by record-breaking achievements, relentless ambition, and unmatched longevity. Beyond his individual accolades, he has led Portugal to historic triumphs—most notably the UEFA Euro 2016 title and the 2019 UEFA Nations League. However, the FIFA World Cup trophy remains the only major honor to have eluded him.

His announcement now sets the stage for what promises to be an emotional farewell tour as he prepares for one final push on football’s biggest stage. Whether or not Portugal lift the World Cup in 2026, Cristiano Ronaldo’s legacy as one of the greatest players in football history is already firmly cemented.

As the world counts down to the 2026 tournament, fans and fellow players alike will watch closely, knowing they are witnessing the final acts of a career that has redefined excellence, discipline, and global sporting influence.
