Liverpool Eye Move for Victor Osimhen as Potential Darwin Núñez Replacement

Liverpool Football Club are reportedly preparing to open formal talks with Napoli’s prolific striker, Victor Osimhen, as the Merseyside giants look to reinforce their attack ahead of the new season.

With aspirations of not only reclaiming but also defending the Premier League title, the Anfield board is said to be exploring key strategic signings—Osimhen being at the top of their list.

Inside sources at Anfield suggest that the club’s hierarchy is seriously considering Osimhen as a replacement for Darwin Núñez. Despite high expectations following his move from Benfica, Núñez has struggled to make a consistent impact since joining Liverpool. As a result, the club is now exploring alternatives who can deliver at the highest level, week in and week out.

Victor Osimhen has established himself as one of the most lethal strikers in world football. Known for his explosive pace, exceptional aerial ability, and clinical finishing, the Nigerian international has continued to prove why he is regarded as one of Europe’s elite forwards.

While clubs in Saudi Arabia—including Al-Hilal—had previously expressed strong interest in signing him, Osimhen reportedly turned down those offers, expressing a desire to remain in Europe where he can compete in top-level football and challenge for major honours.

Osimhen’s Galatasaray Breakthrough

The 2024–25 season saw Osimhen hit new heights during a highly successful loan spell at Turkish giants Galatasaray. He scored an impressive 33 goals in 37 appearances across all competitions, breaking his personal best of 31 goals previously recorded during his time at Napoli.

His prolific form was instrumental in helping Galatasaray clinch their 25th Turkish Super Lig title, further boosting his reputation across Europe.

Release Clause and Wage Demands

Napoli have set a release clause of £75 million for Osimhen, a fee Liverpool are reportedly willing to meet given his proven track record. However, negotiations may be complicated by his wage demands, with the striker reportedly seeking a weekly salary in the region of £350,000.

Liverpool’s recruitment team will have to weigh the financial implications carefully as they aim to secure one of the most sought-after forwards in the game today.
