Thomas Tuchel explains his decision to take on the role of England’s head coach

The English Football Association (FA) has officially confirmed that former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel will take over as head coach of the England national team in preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The FA made the announcement on its official website on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. According to the statement, Tuchel, a renowned German coach, will assume his new position on January 1, 2025. He will be joined by English international Anthony Barry, who will serve as his assistant.

Tuchel brings an impressive track record of success to the role, having won league titles in both France and Germany. He led Paris Saint-Germain to two Ligue 1 championships and most recently secured the Bundesliga title with Bayern Munich during the 2022-23 season.

His first major coaching triumph came in 2017 when he guided Borussia Dortmund to victory in the German Cup. With his extensive experience and trophy-laden career, Tuchel’s appointment is seen as a bold step toward England’s ambitions for World Cup glory in 2026.

Thomas Tuchel expressed his satisfaction on joining the English national team in his first interview at the club.

“I am very proud to have been given the honour of leading the England team. I have long felt a personal connection to the game in this country, and it has given me some incredible moments already. To have the chance to represent England is a huge privilege, and the opportunity to work with this special and talented group of players is very exciting”.

Thomas Tuchel’s contract with the England national team is set to last for 18 months, starting from January 2025 and extending until after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

During his tenure, English fans will be hoping that Tuchel can guide their team to success, ending a long trophy drought.

England has not lifted a major trophy since their historic victory in the 1966 FIFA World Cup, and supporters are eager to see their team bring home another title under the leadership of the accomplished German coach.
