Sevilla terminate Kelechi Iheanacho’s contract
Spanish club Sevilla have officially parted ways with Nigerian forward, Kelechi Iheanacho after mutually agreeing to terminate his contract, which was originally set to run until June 30, 2026.
Iheanacho, who joined Sevilla on a free transfer from Leicester City last summer, struggled to establish himself at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium. He made 15 appearances across all competitions in the first half of the 2024/25 season, scoring three goals, before being loaned to Championship side Middlesbrough in January.
During his spell in England, the 28-year-old registered one goal and two assists in 15 matches, but his performances were not enough to earn a return to Sevilla’s plans. He failed to make the matchday squad for the club’s opening three league games this season, signaling the end of his time in Spain.
A club statement confirmed the departure:
“Sevilla FC and Kelechi Iheanacho have reached an agreement to terminate the contract of the Nigerian striker. Iheanacho joined the club last summer after ending his contract with Leicester City.”
The Super Eagles star is now strongly linked with a move to Scottish champions Celtic, where he could reunite with manager Brendan Rodgers, his former coach at Leicester City.
Iheanacho’s next move will be crucial as he seeks to revive his career ahead of Nigeria’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and the Africa Cup of Nations.
