Pedro Neto gets a new jersey number at Chelsea

Pedro Neto has been assigned a new jersey number at Chelsea following a recent and unexpected development at the club.

In an official statement, Chelsea confirmed that one of their latest signings, Pedro Neto, will sport a different jersey number for the remainder of the 2024/2025 football season. Neto will be switching from his initial number 19 to the iconic number 7 jersey.

The number 7 jersey was previously worn by Raheem Sterling, who has now been removed from the first-team squad. This change was officially announced by Chelsea’s manager, Enzo Maresca, earlier on Wednesday. Maresca revealed that both Sterling and Ben Chilwell are currently training separately from the main squad.

Explaining the reasoning behind this decision, Maresca stated, “I have been honest, he will have no minutes here. I am not saying Raheem is not a good player, but I prefer different kinds of wingers. It’s simple. I told Raheem he’s going to struggle to get minutes with us. Chilly, he’s going to struggle here too.”

Neto, who recently transferred to Chelsea from Wolves, initially wore the number 19 shirt during Chelsea’s match against Manchester City last Sunday.

Neto expressed his enthusiasm about joining Stamford Bridge, saying in a recent interview, “I feel really grateful to have joined this club. I have worked really hard in my career to be here, and I’m looking forward to getting on the pitch with this shirt.”

In addition to Neto’s number change, Chelsea has confirmed that new signing Joao Felix will wear the number 14 shirt. The club also mentioned that squad numbers are still subject to change until the transfer window closes, hinting at possible further adjustments as the team finalizes its roster.
