According to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth, Manchester United have initiated talks with French club Lille to sign defender Leny Yoro this summer.
United are in the market for a new central defender. Their primary target has been Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, but negotiations have stalled as Everton demands £70 million while United is unwilling to exceed £43 million.
Sheth reports that the Red Devils have now approached Lille about Yoro, considering him as an alternative due to the impasse with Everton over Branthwaite.
A highly talented player, Yoro is one of Europe’s most sought-after young defenders. The 18-year-old had an impressive breakthrough season with Lille, boasting a 92% pass completion rate and winning 65% of his aerial duels in Ligue 1. He also averaged nearly 4 recoveries and 3 clearances per game.

Lille is willing to sell Yoro for around £42 million. Despite his contract expiring next season, his maturity and potential make him a bargain.
United face competition from Liverpool and Real Madrid for Yoro, but they might have an edge by offering regular first-team football.
With Raphael Varane leaving on a free transfer next month, manager Erik ten Hag could offer Yoro a starting role, similar to his approach with young talents at Ajax.
