Elon Musk's X to Make Live Streaming Premium
Social media platform X, previously known as Twitter, has announced that it will soon require a premium subscription to access its livestreaming feature.
According to Engadget, this move will set X apart from other live streaming platforms such as YouTube, Twitch, and Kick, which currently offer livestreaming for free.
This change is part of X’s strategy, under Elon Musk’s ownership, to attract more users to its premium subscription service.
The Basic subscription tier on X starts at $3 per month, while the Premium and Premium+ tiers are priced at $8 and $16 per month, respectively. Subscribers to these plans can enjoy benefits like longer video uploads, ad-free feeds, and the ability to edit and write longer posts.

In its announcement, the company did not provide any explanation for the change. However, this news follows a recent report revealing that the struggling platform is experiencing significant financial losses. Given these circumstances, the move is unsurprising as Elon Musk seeks new revenue streams.
The company has also experimented with charging new accounts for the ability to post on X. Therefore, it wouldn’t be surprising if, in the future, non-premium accounts are charged $1 to reply to posts.
