Man United Clear on Osimhen Transfer as Striker Deal Confirmed
Man United Yet to Make Striker Move as Osimhen Update Emerges and Jonathan David Joins Juventus
Manchester United are yet to secure a new striker to lead Ruben Amorim’s revamped attack.
Heading into the summer, it was evident United needed a fresh focal point in their frontline, and all efforts were initially directed at signing Liam Delap.
However, that pursuit fell short as Chelsea beat them to the punch. As a result, the club shifted their attention to other targets. Matheus Cunha has since been signed, but United are still looking to boost attacking competition and are now focused on landing Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.
There’s growing optimism that a deal for Mbeumo could be finalized, as the player is reportedly holding out for this particular move. Despite that encouraging sign, United have yet to widen their search beyond a few select names. While progress is being made in offloading five players who wish to leave the club, the striker United desire remains unsigned.
With this in mind, the Manchester Evening News provides the latest transfer updates — especially concerning two forwards whose futures have recently taken major turns.
Fabrizio Romano has clarified that there is currently “no imminent movement” regarding Victor Osimhen, and there has been “no advancement on any possible move to Old Trafford.” Although Osimhen’s contract includes a €75m (£67m) release clause, Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal have shown a willingness to meet it. Meanwhile, Galatasaray — where Osimhen spent last season on loan — are still interested in his services.
However, as of now, “it is said to be uncertain whether United have instigated contact in the hope of signing the Nigerian international.”
MEN Sport says: “They’ve lost out on Delap, now Manchester United haven’t exactly made a move for an alternative striker in the month or so that has followed. The only choices left on the table are in Osimhen’s price range and that is the situation the club find themselves in. As he is possibly the best on the market at 26, entering his prime with at least four years to see the best of him, it seems the best deal going.”
Jonathan David is officially off the market as he has signed with Juventus, ruling him out as a potential option for Manchester United.
The 25-year-old Canadian forward departed French Ligue 1 side LOSC Lille on Monday, June 30, following the conclusion of his contract. During his five-year spell in France, David scored 109 goals and provided 30 assists across 232 appearances.
Although David became a free agent, which presented an opportunity for United to negotiate a move, it quickly became clear that he was bound for Turin. Juventus have now confirmed his signing on a five-year contract.
MEN Sport says: “United may come to regret this one. David has been consistently scoring for fun in one of Europe’s top-five leagues and looking at the state of the transfer market right now, the fact he was available for free instead of north of £60m – as everybody else seems to be – made it seem like a no-brainer. If they wanted to then United would have made a move, so it is strange how they have missed this one whilst Amorim’s wait for a striker continues.”
