João Pedro vomits during Brazil World Cup qualifier against Chile
It was a frightening moment for Chelsea forward João Pedro during Brazil’s 3-0 World Cup qualifying victory over Chile, after the young striker collapsed and vomited on the pitch following a nasty collision.
The 23-year-old, who only recently swapped Brighton for Stamford Bridge and has enjoyed a blistering start to life at Chelsea, sparked concern among teammates and fans alike when he went down needing urgent medical attention.
The incident occurred in the first half when Pedro clashed head-on with Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli while both were chasing a loose ball. The impact left the forward visibly shaken, and moments later, he vomited on the pitch as medical staff rushed to his aid.
Despite the alarming nature of the incident, Pedro was able to continue playing after treatment and remained on the field until the 71st minute, when he was substituted for Kaio Jorge. His determination to carry on underscored his resilience, though the sight of him collapsing left Brazil fans holding their breath.
After the match, Pedro was quick to calm fears, explaining the situation to reporters:
“I was following the action, I was running to try to catch the ball. When I looked ahead, Martinelli was there. We collided, and I received a blow to the stomach. I felt a little bad, but I was calm afterwards.”
His reassurances provided relief to both Brazil supporters and Chelsea fans, who have been eager to see the forward build on his early-season form in England.
Since his arrival at Stamford Bridge, Pedro has been one of Chelsea’s standout performers, already earning a Premier League Player of the Month nomination. His ability to adapt quickly to Mauricio Pochettino’s system has impressed pundits, with many tipping him to be a long-term asset for both club and country.
The incident against Chile may have been a scare, but Pedro’s quick recovery and composed response suggest he will continue to shine for Chelsea and Brazil in the months ahead.
