FIFA Replaces Officials for Benin Republic vs Super Eagles 2026 World Cup Qualifier
FIFA Replaces Officials for Benin Republic vs. Super Eagles 2026 World Cup Qualifier – FIFA, the global governing body of football, has implemented changes to the officiating team for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifying match between Benin Republic and Nigeria.
This highly anticipated match is scheduled to take place at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny in the Ivorian capital on Monday, 10th June 2024.
Originally, Ethiopian official Bamlak Tessema Weyesa was appointed as the referee for the encounter set to kick off at 4pm. However, FIFA has since replaced him with Gabonese official Pierre Ghislain Atcho, who will now assume the role of referee.
While the assistant referee positions remain unchanged, with Temesgin Samuel Atango and Tigle Gizaw Belachew of Ethiopia retaining their roles, there has been a change in the fourth official. Ethiopian Tewodros Mitiku has been replaced by Cameroonian Antoine Max Effa Essouma.
Despite these alterations to the officiating team, the originally designated referee assessor, match commissioner, and security officer will maintain their roles for the Day 4 encounter.
It’s worth noting that this match comes just three days after the Super Eagles face Bafana Bafana in a matchday three battle at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
The upcoming match holds significant importance for the Super Eagles as they strive to qualify for the next World Cup. The outcome of this match could have a substantial impact on the team’s chances of securing a spot in the tournament.
