Davido Honors Late Mother with Veronica Adeleke Hostel at Clifford University

Afrobeats megastar Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, has once again shown his deep love and respect for his late mother, Dr. Veronica Adeleke, by unveiling a female hostel named in her honor at Clifford University, located in Abia State, Nigeria.

The inauguration took place during the university’s 6th convocation ceremony, drawing an atmosphere of joy, emotion, and admiration from students, staff, and fans who gathered to witness the moment.

Davido, accompanied by members of his 30BG crew and popular nightlife mogul Cubana Chief Priest, officially commissioned the Veronica Adeleke Hostel in a heartwarming ceremony that celebrated not only his mother’s legacy but also her enduring impact on education and humanitarian values.

Speaking during the event, Davido described the hostel as a tribute to his mother’s life as a teacher, philanthropist, and advocate for education, adding that her spirit of compassion and service continues to inspire everything he does — from his music to his charitable works.

“When I looked into the faces of the graduates, I saw the same fire that built me — that hunger to be seen, to turn pain into power,” Davido said in his emotional address. “Talent might open the door, but purpose gives it meaning.”

The ceremony wasn’t just about remembrance — it was also about empowerment and giving back. In a touching gesture, Cubana Chief Priest announced that he would sponsor the school fees of 50 students, further enriching the day’s theme of generosity and hope.

Clifford University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Chimezie Omeonu, commended Davido for his dedication to promoting education and inspiring the next generation of African youths. “What Davido has done today transcends music — it’s a powerful message that fame and success can be used to uplift others,” he said.

Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account after the event, Davido expressed how meaningful the project was to him personally:

“My mother, Dr. Veronica Adeleke, believed education and compassion could change lives. This building is a continuation of her purpose — turning love into legacy.”

The ribbon-cutting ceremony concluded with cheers, music, and applause as Davido interacted warmly with students, many of whom expressed gratitude for his generosity and inspiration. The event marked not just the opening of a new facility, but the continuation of a legacy of love, education, and empowerment — values that Dr. Veronica Adeleke embodied throughout her life.
