Burna Boy responds after Sarina Wiegman says she’d love to dance with him

England women’s national team coach, Sarina Wiegman, added an unexpected touch of fun and glamour to the 2025 Ballon d’Or ceremony, thanks to a playful nod to Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Burna Boy.

After being crowned Women’s Coach of the Year, Wiegman delivered an inspiring acceptance speech celebrating her players’ dedication and hard work. But it was the way she wrapped it up that truly stole the spotlight.

With a big smile, she quipped: “If Burna Boy is around, maybe we could do a little bit of dancing too!” The lighthearted remark immediately drew laughter from the crowd and quickly exploded across social media, blending the worlds of football and music in a way that thrilled fans.

Burna Boy himself wasted no time in joining the fun. On Monday, September 22, he fired off a warm and cheeky response on X (formerly Twitter): “Haha, I’m up for it Sarina! A huge congrats to you and the team @Lionesses.” His reply not only delighted fans but also sparked speculation about whether this humorous back-and-forth might evolve into something more — perhaps a surprise stage appearance, a celebratory dance, or even a musical collaboration tied to the Lionesses’ success.

Wiegman’s celebratory mood is well-earned. She has just capped off a remarkable year with the Lionesses, guiding them to Euro 2025 glory in Switzerland. England edged past Spain in a nail-biting final, winning 3-1 on penalties after a tense 1-1 draw in extra time.

The victory marked her second European crown with England, following their historic 2022 triumph that ignited a new era for women’s football in the country.

The night itself proved to be a showcase of English dominance in women’s football. Goalkeeper Hannah Hampton took home the prestigious Yashin Trophy, while a host of Lionesses — including Alessia Russo, Chloe Kelly, Leah Williamson, Lucy Bronze, and Hampton herself — all secured top 10 finishes in the Women’s Player of the Year rankings.

Adding to the celebrations, Arsenal Women were named Women’s Club of the Year, cementing England’s influence on the global stage.

Now, with Burna Boy humorously “on board,” the buzz has shifted beyond football. Fans are eagerly imagining what a crossover moment between the Grammy-winning Afrobeats star and the title-winning coach might look like. Whether it’s a celebratory dance at a future event, a joint public appearance, or simply more playful exchanges online, one thing is certain — Wiegman’s witty comment has created a cultural moment that goes far beyond the pitch.
