Barcelona suffer huge injury blow ahead of El classico

Spread the love

Barcelona’s growing injury woes have deepened just days before the highly anticipated El Clásico showdown against Real Madrid, as star striker Robert Lewandowski has suffered a muscle tear while on international duty with Poland.

The 37-year-old forward reportedly sustained the injury during Poland’s recent international fixture, and early assessments suggest that he could be sidelined for several weeks, dealing a major blow to Barcelona’s attacking strength. His absence is expected to impact not only the club’s La Liga campaign but also their progress in the UEFA Champions League.

🔹 Barcelona’s Official Statement

The club confirmed the news in an official announcement published on their website on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. According to the statement, Lewandowski has been diagnosed with a hamstring injury in his left thigh, and the duration of his recovery will depend on how well the injury heals over time.

Barcelona’s statement read:

“Robert Lewandowski has suffered a hamstring injury in his left thigh. He will be sidelined, and his recovery time will depend on how the injury progresses. The Polish striker has scored four goals in nine appearances so far in the 2025–26 season. His tally includes a brace against Valencia and goals against Oviedo and Real Sociedad. This season, he has also scored two goals for Poland, the most recent coming during the October international break against Lithuania.”

🔹 How Long Will Lewandowski Be Out?

Although Barcelona have not provided a specific timeframe for his return, medical experts suggest that the injury could keep him out for at least three to five weeks, depending on his recovery progress.

If that estimate holds true, Lewandowski will miss multiple crucial fixtures, including:

  • La Liga clash vs. Girona – this weekend

  • UEFA Champions League match vs. Olympiacos – next week

  • El Clásico vs. Real Madrid – October 26

  • Potentially the next international break in November

Should his recovery extend further, the Polish forward could also be absent for matches against Elche, Club Brugge, and Celta Vigo, leaving Barcelona without their leading striker during a vital phase of the season.

🔹 A Major Setback for Xavi’s Side

Lewandowski’s injury comes at a difficult time for manager Xavi Hernández, who is already dealing with several fitness concerns within the squad. The veteran striker has been one of Barcelona’s most consistent performers, contributing key goals and leadership on and off the pitch.

His absence leaves a huge gap in the attack, and Xavi will now likely turn to the likes of Ferran Torres, Vitor Roque, or Ansu Fati (if fit) to fill the void up front.

With the El Clásico just around the corner, the news is a major blow for Barcelona, who will have to face their fiercest rivals without their most experienced goal-scorer. Fans will be hoping for a speedy recovery as the club navigates one of the most challenging stretches of their campaign.
