5 New Premier League rules for the 2025/2026 season

3. Double Penalty Can Be Retaken – If a player accidentally kicks the ball twice while taking a penalty — a rare but possible occurrence — the penalty will now be retaken instead of automatically being ruled invalid. 4. Referee Discretion on Drop Balls – Match officials will now have the authority to award a drop ball to a team that did not last touch the ball if they judge that the opposing side would have gained possession unfairly.

5. No Yellow Card for Certain Ball Touches Off the Pitch – If a coach, substitute, or player off the field touches the ball before it fully goes out of play, no yellow card will be issued. However, the opposing team will still receive an indirect free-kick from the spot where the interference occurred.
