‘House of the Dragon’ S2E1 Recap: What Happened to Jaehaerys and Jaehaera?

The second season of the Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, has premiered. Episode one aired on HBO in the US on June 17, with UK viewers watching via Sky Atlantic and NOW.

A recently released trailer teased the escalating tensions from season one’s finale, where Alicent (Olivia Cooke) and Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans) plotted to crown Alicent’s son Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney) after King Viserys (Paddy Considine) died.

Initially, Viserys named his daughter Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) as heir, but a deathbed change, overheard only by Alicent, altered the succession. This sparked a Targaryen civil war, known as the ‘Dance of the Dragons’ in George R.R. Martin’s books.

The trailer shows The Blacks, led by Rhaenyra and Daemon (Matt Smith), preparing to invade King’s Landing to take the Iron Throne from The Greens, led by Aegon. The intense trailer features glimpses of the forthcoming bloody conflict and a visit to The Wall.
