Sydney Concert Venue for Taylor Swift Faces Asbestos Testing – Fans eagerly anticipating Taylor Swift’s highly-awaited concert in Sydney are on edge as the venue undergoes testing for asbestos.

Sydney Olympic Park, the chosen location for the Australian leg of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, is bracing for hundreds of thousands of attendees, making it one of the most significant concert tours in history.

However, concerns over asbestos contamination in New South Wales have prompted authorities at Sydney Olympic Park to initiate tests on the mulch used on a median strip of a divided road within the complex. This precautionary measure follows a broader issue of garden mulch contamination across the state.

The mulch in question at Sydney Olympic Park has been traced back to a supply chain currently under investigation. NSW Environment Minister Penny Sharpe reassured fans that while initial tests revealed no asbestos, a secondary test was underway as a precaution.

She affirmed, “Regardless, we can remove the mulch and remediate in time for Taylor Swift to perform. This will not stop Taylor Swift performing in Sydney.”

Taylor Swift's Sydney concert will still go ahead as planned, with NSW Environment Minister Penny Sharpe saying affected sites could be remediated in time for next week's concert

The concern stems from a broader investigation by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) into potential foul play in the asbestos contamination of garden mulch throughout Sydney.

Over 70 garden beds and parks are undergoing testing, with 25 confirmed locations found to contain the hazardous material. Notable sites include St John of God Hospital in North Richmond, Kellyville Woolworths, and a Transport for NSW park at Wiley Park. Several schools are also undergoing precautionary testing.

The spotlight turned to Southwest Sydney-based mulch supplier Greenlife Resource Recovery Facility (GRRF), which recycles wooden pallets into the garden product linked to the contamination.

Despite the confirmation of asbestos in multiple locations, a test on the remaining stockpile of mulch at GRRF’s operations center returned a negative result. The EPA inspected their operations center and remaining stockpile to ensure safety measures.
