Rema Named on TIME100 Next List as One of the World’s Most Influential Emerging Leaders
Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has been honoured with a place on TIME’s prestigious TIME100 Next list, cementing his status as one of the most influential rising figures shaping the future of global culture.
The TIME100 Next is an annual recognition that spotlights 100 emerging leaders, innovators, and visionaries from across the world whose work is redefining leadership, creativity, and impact for a new generation. The 2025 edition features three international covers highlighting singer-songwriter Tate McRae, actor Jonathan Bailey, and Spring Health co-founder April Koh, while celebrating global standouts like Rema, Elon Musk, and Donald Trump, among others.
TIME’s CEO, Jessica Sibley, described this year’s honorees as trailblazers who are “redefining what progress, influence, and impact mean in today’s world.”
Angélique Kidjo’s Tribute to Rema
Legendary Beninese singer and Grammy winner Angélique Kidjo penned a glowing tribute to Rema in the magazine. She recalled how his global hit Calm Down inspired her to feature it in her African Symphony project, alongside classics from icons like Fela Kuti, Miriam Makeba, and Youssou N’Dour.
Kidjo described the record as “rooted in Africa but also catchy and virtuosic,” praising Rema as a true representation of Afrobeats’ international success. She highlighted his ability to merge African rhythms with global sounds, making his music resonate across diverse audiences.
