Rasmus Hojlund speaks on his decision to leave Manchester United
Former Manchester United striker Rasmus Højlund has spoken candidly about his decision to leave Old Trafford and join SSC Napoli.
The Danish forward revealed that his 2025 loan move to Napoli was not entirely by choice, admitting he felt he had reached a point where staying at United was no longer an option. He pointed to growing frustrations during his time at the club as a key factor behind his departure.
Højlund made these remarks during an interview while on international duty with Denmark, explaining that leaving Manchester United ultimately proved to be the best decision for his career.
“At one stage, it felt like everything was over for me,” he said. “Since coming to Napoli, I’ve rediscovered my love for football. Even back home in Denmark, people had started writing me off, but I never lost belief.”
Reflecting honestly on his time in England, he added: “If we look at my recent period at Manchester United, I didn’t perform well—I know that. But things have changed now. People said I was finished, but I kept pushing. At Napoli, I feel happy playing again.”
The striker expressed confidence that he made the right move, noting that his improved performances in Italy validate his decision. Since joining Napoli, Højlund has shown a noticeable return to form, reaffirming his belief in his abilities.
