PSG Captain Marquinhos out with thigh injury

Paris Saint-Germain captain Marquinhos has been ruled out with a thigh injury, adding to a growing list of fitness concerns for the reigning European champions.

The French club confirmed the development on Friday, announcing on their official website that the 31-year-old Brazilian defender “will undergo treatment on a left thigh injury over the next few weeks.”

The setback is the latest in a string of injury problems for Luis Enrique’s squad, which is already without midfield star Joao Neves, teenager Desire Doue, and recent Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembele. The series of absences has placed mounting pressure on the team as they navigate a packed and crucial stage of the season.

PSG did not specify when Marquinhos sustained the injury. The centre-half completed the full 90 minutes during Monday’s 1-0 loss to bitter rivals Marseille, a match in which he unfortunately scored an own goal. The defeat not only dented PSG’s domestic campaign but also raised concerns about the physical toll on key players.

When contacted by AFP for clarification on the timing of the injury, the club did not immediately respond.

There was, however, some good news for PSG supporters. Forward Bradley Barcola returned to training on Friday after missing the Marseille fixture due to muscle fatigue in his thigh. His presence boosts attacking options ahead of the team’s upcoming fixtures.

PSG host Auxerre in Ligue 1 action this weekend before turning their attention to a high-profile Champions League clash against Barcelona at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday. The Parisians will then travel to Lille on October 5 for another demanding league encounter.

The loss of Marquinhos, a veteran leader and central figure in PSG’s backline, comes at a critical time as Enrique looks to maintain momentum in both domestic and European competitions. His absence is likely to test the depth of PSG’s defensive resources in the weeks ahead.
