Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez have launched a new football venture with the founding of Deportivo LSM, a fourth-tier Division D club in Uruguay.

The former Barcelona stars unveiled their new team via their official social media platforms, marking an exciting new chapter in their football journeys. The club’s name, LSM, is a tribute to both players, combining the initials of their names.

Luis Suárez expressed deep emotion during the announcement on Instagram, saying:

“Today, I want to give back to Uruguayan football, which I’ve loved and been part of since childhood, by creating opportunities and providing tools for young people to grow. With this club, we aim to compete in the AUF (Uruguayan Football Federation), and this step excites me deeply—it’s a meaningful move for me and my family in a project we truly believe in.”

Lionel Messi also shared heartfelt words about the project:

“This dream doesn’t stop here—it’s something we get to share with our families, friends, and close companions. We’ve lived so many experiences together since we were young, all the way to the top of football. That’s why I’m proud to introduce a teammate and friend. This project is the perfect way to keep nurturing our shared vision of the game that’s been with us from the start.”

Deportivo LSM is expected to train at the Luis Suárez complex, a nearly 20-acre facility that includes a synthetic turf stadium with seating for 1,400 spectators and a 7-a-side pitch accommodating 620 fans.
