Trent Alexander-Arnold Opens Up Ahead of Emotional Return to Anfield for Real Madrid Clash

Trent Alexander-Arnold has spoken candidly about what fans can expect as Real Madrid prepares to face Liverpool in one of the most emotionally charged fixtures of the 2025 UEFA Champions League season.

The 27-year-old right-back, who made a high-profile switch from Liverpool to Real Madrid last summer, will return to Anfield for the first time since his move — a moment he described as “difficult” yet “special.”

Alexander-Arnold’s departure from Liverpool sent shockwaves through the football world. Having risen through the club’s academy ranks to become a modern-day icon for the Reds, his decision to turn down a contract extension and join Madrid on a free transfer in June was met with mixed emotions from supporters.

Since arriving at the Bernabéu, the England international has made five appearances under Xabi Alonso, though a hamstring injury has recently kept him out of action. Now, he’s expected to be fit and ready for Tuesday’s blockbuster clash — a reunion that carries both sporting and sentimental weight.

Speaking to Amazon Prime Sport, Alexander-Arnold reflected on his upcoming return to Liverpool with a mix of nostalgia and professionalism.

“When the draw came out, I think everyone kind of knew it was bound to happen — it felt like it was meant to be,” he said. “Liverpool are a top team, and I always knew that at some point, I’d have to face them. It’s happening sooner than I expected, and it’ll definitely be a tough game — but one I’m really excited for.”

For a player who spent nearly two decades at the club he supported as a boy, stepping onto the Anfield pitch in white instead of red is bound to be emotional. However, Alexander-Arnold insists his respect and affection for Liverpool will remain unwavering — no matter the result.

“How the fans receive me is completely up to them,” he continued. “But for me, Liverpool will always have a special place in my heart. I’ll always be grateful for everything — the opportunities, the memories, and the success we shared. Those moments shaped me as a player and as a person.”

When asked whether he would celebrate if he scored against his former club, the right-back’s response was heartfelt and immediate:

“No, I wouldn’t celebrate. Out of respect for the fans, the players, and everything the club has done for me, that wouldn’t feel right. No matter what happens, my love for Liverpool won’t change. I’ll always be proud of what we achieved together.”

Alexander-Arnold’s words capture the emotional depth of his connection with Liverpool — a club where he won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and Club World Cup, and earned recognition as one of the best full-backs in modern football.

Tuesday’s fixture promises to be more than just a Champions League showdown; it’s a story of loyalty, legacy, and evolution. For Real Madrid, it’s a test of their European dominance under Alonso. For Liverpool fans, it’s a reminder of a player who once embodied their spirit — now standing on the opposite side.

As anticipation builds, one thing is certain: Trent Alexander-Arnold’s return to Anfield will be one of the defining emotional moments of the 2025/26 Champions League campaign.
