Afrobeats megastar David Adeleke, better known as Davido, has opened up about the heartbreaking loss of his son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, describing it as a life-altering tragedy that reshaped his perspective on both life and music.

Davido and his wife, Chioma Adeleke, lost their three-year-old son in October 2022 after he tragically drowned in a swimming pool at their Banana Island residence in Lagos State. The devastating incident prompted the singer to step away from the spotlight, a move he says gave him time to reflect deeply on his priorities and the future of his career.

Speaking in a recent interview with ABC News’ Rocsi Diaz, Davido shared how the loss became a turning point in his life.
“Stepping away after losing my son and being able to look back into my career gave me a refocus of how I wanted to move going forward. It changed my life,” he said.

The multi-award-winning artist also expressed pride in the way he and Chioma navigated the tragedy, noting that their resilience has inspired people worldwide. He revealed that strangers — sometimes approaching him in airports — have thanked him for giving them strength during their own moments of grief.

“I was telling my wife the other day that I’m proud of how we bounced back. Now, we got twins. They are big and shouting everywhere. For us to be able to go through the loss of our son and be able to bounce back in a major way is huge,” Davido added.

His heartfelt reflections come as he continues his global 5 Alive tour — a chapter in his career marked not only by musical success but also by personal resilience, renewed purpose, and the courage to keep moving forward after unimaginable loss.
