A member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Ukeyima Thomas, was among the four players of the Lebwit Football Academy, who lost their lives in a road accident around Kwanam Maciji-Pankshin-Kanke road in Plateau State.
The crash occurred last Wednesday on their way back from a friendly football match in Pankshin.
Other players were injured and are currently receiving treatment in a hospital.
The remains of  Ukeyima Thomas, have been conveyed to his hometown in Benue State for burial.
A family member, Ate Fortune Ternenge, said that Ukeyima’s widowed mother and siblings are inconsolable.
“My Dear Beloved Brother, Thomas Tom Ukeyima, as we embark on the journey of bidding you farewell, we find solace in the promise of eternal life. God, in His infinite wisdom, has granted you an exclusive Passing Out Parade ahead of schedule, welcoming you into eternity while your fellow corps members will undergo this rite in a few weeks,” he wrote in a Facebook post on Monday, April 29.
As I journey to bring your remains from Kanke, Plateau State, to Gboko, Benue State, your beloved hometown, my heart overflows with a mix of sorrow and pride.
Thomas, my dear Brother, you fought the good fight and have received your crown. Your life was a testament to humility, kindness, and passion, inspiring all who knew you. Your love for Football was contagious, and your dedication to serving the Lord and others shone like a beacon of hope.
Though your passing was sudden and tragic, we take comfort in the promise of eternal life. As Matthew 25:23 reminds us, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Your life was not in vain; you suffered much, but God has chosen a path that rewards your toils with heavenly blessings. Your widowed mother’s sacrifices were not in vain; you grew into a fine Young Man with a heart of gold. Lord, console her in her grief and grant her peace.
May your memory live on in our hearts forever, and may your legacy inspire us to live with purpose and passion. As we bid you Farewell in this life, we welcome you to eternal rest. Your impact on our lives will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, Dear Beloved Brother. May your soul find eternal peace and joy in the Lord’s presence.
Farewell, Dear brother and Nephew. You will be deeply missed, but your memory will forever be cherished.
