Chelsea Confirm Exit of Goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic to Bournemouth

Chelsea Football Club have officially announced the departure of Serbian goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic, who has completed a permanent move to Premier League side Bournemouth ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Petrovic initially joined Chelsea from New England Revolution in the summer of 2023 and featured in 31 matches during his debut season at Stamford Bridge. However, in the 2024/25 campaign, he was loaned out to RC Strasbourg, where he impressed with another 31 appearances and 10 clean sheets, earning recognition as one of the standout goalkeepers in France’s top flight.

Why did Djordje Petrovic leave Chelsea?
Petrovic opted to part ways with Chelsea after growing uncertain about his chances of breaking into the first-team ahead of Spanish keeper Robert Sanchez. Rather than sit on the bench, the 24-year-old sought regular playing time and a more prominent role elsewhere.

Why Bournemouth?
Bournemouth had been on the lookout for a new shot-stopper following the return of Kepa Arrizabalaga to Chelsea after his loan stint. Kepa has since joined Arsenal, while Mark Travers was sold to Everton—leaving the Cherries with a gap to fill in their goalkeeping department. Petrovic’s strong performances in Ligue 1 made him an attractive option for the club.

Transfer Fee
Chelsea reportedly agreed to a deal worth £25 million for Petrovic, securing a solid return on their initial investment and freeing up space in their goalkeeping ranks.

Petrovic now looks set to compete for the No. 1 spot at Bournemouth, where he is expected to play a key role under the club’s plans for the upcoming season.
