Bayern Munich hands Harry Kane his first ever trophy
Bayern Munich Clinch 2024/25 Bundesliga Title, Ending Harry Kane’s Trophy Drought
Bayern Munich have been officially crowned champions of the 2024/25 Bundesliga season, a triumph that finally ends Harry Kane’s long wait for silverware.
The title was secured after Bayer Leverkusen were held to a 2-2 draw by Freiburg on Sunday, a day after Bayern failed to beat RB Leipzig. Leverkusen, managed by Xabi Alonso, needed a win to remain in contention mathematically but couldn’t deliver, handing the championship to the Bavarians.
This marks Bayern’s 12th Bundesliga title in the last 13 seasons, but it’s the first major club trophy for England captain Harry Kane. Suspended for the Leipzig match due to a fifth yellow card, Kane watched nervously from the sidelines as Yussuf Poulsen’s stoppage-time equalizer delayed Bayern’s celebrations by a day.
Kane is set to return for Bayern’s home fixture against Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday, May 10, 2025, where the team will celebrate the title with fans at the Allianz Arena. The striker had previously endured heartbreaks in Champions League and Carabao Cup finals with Tottenham, as well as two European final defeats with England.
The victory also represents a significant milestone for manager Xabi Alonso, whose appointment was met with skepticism due to his limited top-flight experience. It’s his second major success in as many years, following his Championship title win with Burnley in the 2022/23 season.
