Chelsea’s Cole Palmer Sidelined with Recurring Groin Injury

Chelsea forward Cole Palmer is facing a spell on the sidelines after suffering a recurrence of a groin injury that has plagued him since the Club World Cup earlier in the summer.

The injury resurfaced during Chelsea’s recent Premier League clash against Manchester United, forcing the 22-year-old off the pitch after just 20 minutes of play. Manager Enzo Maresca later confirmed that Palmer would be given a two to three-week rest period, with the club adopting a cautious recovery strategy to prevent any long-term damage.

According to club sources, the decision has been made to manage the issue conservatively, avoiding surgery for now. The medical team remains confident that, with proper rest and structured rehabilitation, Palmer will make a full recovery shortly after the October international break.

However, several reports suggest that the England international could remain out until after the break, depending on his response to treatment. Chelsea will continue to monitor his condition on a day-to-day and week-to-week basis, ensuring that he is fully fit before returning to competitive action.

Palmer’s absence represents a significant blow to Maresca’s plans early in the 2025/26 season. The young attacker has been instrumental in Chelsea’s forward line, providing goals, assists, and creativity since joining the club from Manchester City. His ability to unlock defenses and link up with teammates has made him one of Chelsea’s most influential players.

With Palmer unavailable, Chelsea will now have to depend on other attacking options — including Raheem Sterling, Noni Madueke, and Christopher Nkunku — to shoulder the creative burden during this crucial period.

As the Blues navigate a packed fixture schedule that includes both Premier League and European commitments, Maresca and his team will be hoping for Palmer’s swift recovery to help restore balance and potency to their attack once he returns to full fitness.
