Van de Beek Confirms Man Utd Exit
Donny van de Beek has had a challenging tenure at Manchester United since his transfer from Ajax in 2020 and is now reportedly set to join Spanish side Girona.
The 27-year-old midfielder struggled to make a significant impact at Old Trafford following his £34 million ($43 million) move.
His time at United included two loan spells, the first with Everton during the 2021-22 season and the second with German club Eintracht Frankfurt in the latter half of the most recent campaign.
During his stint at Manchester United, Van de Beek made 62 appearances across all competitions, scoring only twice. He was unable to replicate the form that had earned him a stellar reputation at Ajax.
Girona, who will be participating in the next season’s Champions League, are reportedly prepared to pay around £4 million to secure Van de Beek’s services. The midfielder bid an emotional farewell to Manchester United on social media.
“Dear Manchester United family. Today is a memorable day as my adventure at the club comes to an end,” he wrote on Instagram. “I want to thank you for all your support throughout the years. From the moment we arrived at Manchester United, we felt extremely welcome and we are grateful for that.
Thank you to everyone at the club for making us feel at home. A special thanks to all the fans that made these years unforgettable.
Besides the football, the birth of our two children here ensures that Manchester will always have a special place in our hearts. Good luck to everybody, we’ll meet again.”
This move marks a new chapter for Van de Beek as he seeks to revive his career with Girona, bringing his time at Manchester United to a close.
