Two arrested for throwing suspected chicken into burning fire

Two suspects have been taken into custody by detectives following a disturbing mob injustice incident in Nyamira County, Kenya.
The horrific incident occurred on July 26, 2025 in Matongo, Nyamira North of the country.
The suspects, identified as James Nyang’au Kieri and Evans Nyang’au Anyoka, were captured on a distressing footage that has since gone viral on social media, depicting them mercilessly assaulting a man suspected of stealing a chicken and ultimately tossing him into a burning fire.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) confirmed the arrest in a statement on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.
“Through forensic analysis, detectives trailed the suspects and apprehended them. They are currently in custody undergoing processing pending arraignment,” the statement read.
“The National Police Service expresses deep concern over the alarming rise in cases of mob injustice incidents and their severe implications for public safety. The public is urged to allow the justice system to take its course, as taking the law into one’s own hands will be met with the full force of the law.”
