Tragic Beach Incident: Young Girl Dies While Digging Sand Hole – A tragic incident unfolded at a south Florida beach on Tuesday when a young girl lost her life after being buried in sand.
Emergency responders, summoned around 3 p.m. to Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, discovered an approximately 8-year-old boy buried up to his chest in the collapsed hole. The girl, aged around 7, was entirely covered beneath the boy in the 5 to 6 feet deep pit when the collapse occurred.
Sandra King, a spokesperson for Pompano Beach Fire Rescue, described the harrowing scene. Rescue efforts involved using support boards to prevent further sand collapse as shovels were employed to excavate the children. The duration of their entrapment remains unknown.
