Man United Plot Summer Overhaul Amid PSR Pressure – Antony Swap Deal Could Land Julian Alvarez and Annoy City

Manchester United are preparing for a busy summer of departures and arrivals as they navigate a squad rebuild while staying within the limits of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). Facing financial pressure, United must sell before they can buy, with several players—Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Antony—likely to be offloaded.

Antony, currently on loan at Real Betis without a buy clause, has impressed in La Liga, drawing interest from Atletico Madrid. Reports suggest Atletico are eyeing a £38.4m bid, plus £25.6m in add-ons. A sale would help United meet PSR thresholds, as they need to recoup at least £32.5m for the Brazilian.

However, United may look to capitalize on Atletico’s interest with a sensational swap proposal involving former Man City striker Julian Alvarez. Since joining Atletico last summer for £65m, Alvarez has scored 24 goals in 47 games.

A move to Old Trafford would provide United with a proven Premier League forward—and irritate rivals City, given Alvarez’s past at the Etihad. The Argentine tallied 36 goals and 18 assists in over 100 appearances for City.

Meanwhile, United have been linked with other strikers including Ipswich’s Liam Delap, Wolves’ Matheus Cunha, and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen (currently on loan at Galatasaray). Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres, previously a top target, now appears headed to Arsenal.

In other news, United believe they have a future superstar in their squad—someone they expect to become “one of the best in the world.”
