Tesla issues fourth recall for new Cybertruck pickup

Tesla is recalling the Cybertruck pickup for the fourth time since its launch late last year to address issues with potentially failing windshield wipers.

The recall, detailed in documents submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), affects over 11,000 trucks. Tesla reported that staff first identified problems with the windshield wipers in February.

“In affected vehicles, the front windshield wiper motor controller may stop functioning due to electrical overstress to the gate driver component,” Tesla explained in its submission to the NHTSA.

A malfunctioning wiper can impair visibility, increasing the risk of a crash, the company noted.

Additionally, another recall addresses a trim piece along the truck bed that can come loose and fly off, posing a hazard to other motorists.

Tesla’s documents state that the trim piece, which is installed with adhesive, may not have been properly affixed at the factory.

Tesla will replace the wiper motor and rework or replace the trim piece at no cost to owners. Owners will be notified of both recalls and the respective remedies by letter on August 18.

These recalls mark the fourth instance of Tesla recalling the stainless steel-clad Cybertruck since it went on sale on November 30, 2023.
