Ruben Amorim speaks on Man United’s defeat against Everton
Manchester United’s impressive run of form came to a dramatic halt as they fell to a shocking defeat against 10-man Everton at Old Trafford.
The result was a significant triumph for former United manager David Moyes, who had never won a Premier League match at Old Trafford as a visiting coach. For a moment, it seemed that record would continue, especially after Everton’s Idrissa Gueye received a straight red card just 13 minutes into the encounter for striking Michael Keane during a heated exchange.
Despite being reduced to 10 men, Everton held firm and delivered their first victory at Old Trafford since December 2013 — a win that also came during Moyes’ brief tenure as United manager. The loss brought Ruben Amorim’s side crashing back to reality after a strong five-game unbeaten run.
Speaking during his post-match press conference, Amorim expressed deep frustration with his team’s performance and their inability to break down Everton’s resilient defense.
He said:
“We didn’t play well. We didn’t understand the game, and we were simply going with the flow. That is my biggest concern. For five weeks everyone has been praising our evolution, but I keep saying the same thing — we’re not there yet. I am really frustrated with the way we played, especially at home. Considering what happened this weekend with the other clubs, looking at the table and feeling the pressure, the way we showed up from the first minute was really disappointing.”
United fans will now hope the team can bounce back quickly as they prepare for their next Premier League fixture against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday, December 30, 2025.
