Football icon Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed his choice for the player he believes should win the 2024 Ballon d’Or and future editions.

For nearly 20 years, the Ballon d’Or has been dominated by Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, with the two superstars winning 13 of the last 15 awards.

Their rivalry has shaped the football world, but the 2024 edition marks a turning point, as neither Messi nor Ronaldo was nominated, signaling the end of an era for the sport’s greatest competition.

With the Ballon d’Or now moving into a new chapter, Ronaldo, a five-time winner, has shifted his attention to the emerging talents ready to take over.

In a conversation on his YouTube channel, “UR,” with former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand, Ronaldo discussed the next generation of players poised to make their mark on the global stage.

He shared his insights on who he believes will rise to the top, revealing his preferred choices to win the 2024 Ballon d’Or and dominate the prestigious award in the coming years.

Ronaldo remarked, “Kylian Mbappé can win the Ballon d’Or for the next few years. Probably Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham [as well].” When Ferdinand mentioned Vinícius Júnior, Ronaldo acknowledged another rising star, adding, “Also Lamine Yamal. I think this new generation has a lot of potential.”
