Real Madrid in Talks with Liverpool for Early Transfer of Trent Alexander-Arnold Ahead of FIFA Club World Cup

Real Madrid have reportedly made an official approach to Liverpool regarding the early acquisition of right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, aiming to secure his services before the commencement of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

Earlier this year, Liverpool and Alexander-Arnold released a joint statement confirming that the defender would leave the club at the end of the 2024/25 season.

His current contract with the Merseyside club is set to expire on June 30, 2025. Meanwhile, Real Madrid’s first fixture in the revamped Club World Cup is scheduled for June 18, where they will face Al Hilal in Miami.

With these dates in mind, Madrid are seeking to fast-track Alexander-Arnold’s move in order to include him in their full squad for the tournament. However, if Liverpool decide against an early release, the England international will be ineligible for Madrid’s group stage games against Al Hilal (June 18), Pachuca (June 22), and Red Bull Salzburg (June 27).

Still, there remains a possibility for his inclusion later in the competition. FIFA has allotted a special in-tournament registration window between June 27 and July 3, allowing clubs to register new players for the knockout stages. This means that if a transfer agreement is reached by then, Alexander-Arnold could yet feature in the latter rounds of the tournament.

Reports indicate that Alexander-Arnold has verbally agreed to join Real Madrid once his time at Liverpool comes to an end. As part of the early transfer talks, Real Madrid are said to be offering Liverpool around £890,000 for the early release of the 25-year-old star.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s Trophy Haul at Liverpool

Since breaking into Liverpool’s first team, Alexander-Arnold has enjoyed a highly decorated spell with the club. His list of honours includes:

  • 2 Premier League titles, including the most recent 2024/25 title.

  • 1 UEFA Champions League title (2019)

  • 1 UEFA Super Cup (2019)

  • 1 FIFA Club World Cup (2019)

  • 2 Carabao Cups

  • 1 FA Cup

  • 1 FA Community Shield

Alexander-Arnold has played a pivotal role in Liverpool’s success during the Jurgen Klopp era, earning recognition as one of the best right-backs of his generation.
