Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappé Hospitalised with Gastroenteritis, Club Confirms

Real Madrid star forward Kylian Mbappé has been diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis, following his absence from the club’s FIFA Club World Cup opener against Al-Hilal, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

The French international missed training on Tuesday, citing a high fever, and was left out of the squad for Wednesday’s match. On Thursday, June 19, 2025, Real Madrid issued an official statement confirming that Mbappé had been hospitalised for further medical evaluation and treatment.

“Our player Kylian Mbappé is suffering from an acute case of gastroenteritis and has been admitted to hospital in order to undergo a series of tests and follow the appropriate course of treatment,” the club announced via its website.

What is Gastroenteritis?

Gastroenteritis is an intestinal infection typically caused by viruses, bacteria, or parasites, and is characterized by vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps, and fever. Though often short-lived, severe cases may require hospital care for rehydration and further testing—particularly in high-performance athletes.

Mbappé’s Impact at Real Madrid

Mbappé joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2024 on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). In his debut season, he delivered an explosive performance, scoring 43 goals in 56 appearances across all competitions, cementing his status as a key player in the team’s attacking lineup.

Next Fixture: Real Madrid vs Pachuca

Real Madrid is set to play its next Club World Cup match against Pachuca on Sunday, June 22, 2025. However, Mbappé’s availability remains uncertain, as the club has yet to provide an update on his recovery timeline.

Fans and football analysts alike will be watching closely to see if the star forward will return in time to help his team advance further in the tournament.
