Prince William comes in after King Charles’s cancer diagnosis
Prince William comes in after King Charles’s cancer diagnosis – Heir to the throne Prince William is set to assume more responsibilities as the public face of the UK monarchy while his father, King Charles, undergoes cancer treatment.
According to thenationalnews, the prince is scheduled to resume official duties, including an investiture at Windsor Castle and attending the London Air Ambulance annual fund-raising gala in his capacity as the charity’s patron.
Prince William is returning to engagements after a three-week break following his wife’s undisclosed major abdominal surgery.
The Princess of Wales, who was treated at the same hospital and discharged the same day as the king, is expected to remain away from public duties until after Easter.

Their absence leaves Prince William, Queen Camilla, and the Princess Royal, who carried out an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, managing royal responsibilities alongside the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams noted the dangers of a monarchy that has been slimmed down too much.
Fitzwilliams stated, “Princess Anne already has a substantial number of engagements. Prince William will undoubtedly be taking on more responsibilities. And there will be added pressure on the queen.”
Fitzwilliams emphasized the challenges in planning the family’s spring and summer schedules, stating, “Running a monarchy requires careful planning, and this is tricky, to put it mildly.”
Regarding the king’s illness, Fitzwilliams mentioned a potential positive outcome, a reconciliation with Prince Harry, who has traveled from the US to see his father.
Prince William is said to have grown closer to his father in the aftermath of his brother’s controversial interviews, documentary, and memoir.
As it stands, there are no plans to appoint Counsellors of State to act on behalf of Charles in his absence.
The “workaholic” king will continue behind the scenes, dealing with state business and official papers in his red boxes.
The king and queen were expected to visit Canada in May, and Australia, New Zealand, and Samoa for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in October.
The illness raises the prospect that Prince William may have to deputize for the king at the meeting, just as Charles did for the late Queen.
Other trips could be postponed, depending on how the king’s health progresses.
Prince William may play a key role in forthcoming events, including the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey and the 80th anniversary of D-Day in June.
