The Adamawa State Police Command successfully rescued 3-year-old Friday Okonkwo, who had been sold for N410,000 by his own mother, 24-year-old Blessing Okonkwo.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, revealed that the case unfolded when Hauwa Lawan of Wubirgo Askira, UBA, Borno, initially reported her son as stolen.
Upon investigation, it was discovered that Blessing Okonkwo, originally identified as the abducted child’s sister, is actually his biological mother.
Hauwa Lawan, who had claimed to be the mother, is in fact the grandmother. Blessing Okonkwo, residing in Kabang Ward, Mubi South, became pregnant in 2019 after a relationship with someone named Aboi from Anambra State.
Misleading her parents, Blessing claimed to enroll the child in school in Mubi but instead arranged for his adoption by Ifunanya, requesting N410,000 to support her trade since she couldn’t care for the child born out of wedlock.
Further investigation led to the recovery of the child from Efunaya Nabufe, who had taken him to her sister in Onitsha, Enugu State.
