Police arrest notorious child trafficker, rescue three stolen children in Imo

Operatives of the Quick Intervention Team of the Imo State Police Command have arrested a suspected child trafficker, Mrs Chinelo Onwuasonya, 36, and rescued three stolen children.

The suspect described as notorious figure in child stealing and trafficking was arrested at Amajeke Park in Owerri on Wednesday while in possession of the children abducted from different locations in the state.

Speaking at the police headquarters in Owerri on Thursday, the State Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma hailed the arrest as a major success in the fight against human trafficking. 

He said the operation was meticulously planned to ensure the safety of the children and dismantle the suspect’s network.

Danjuma identified the recovered children as Chinecherem Eze, three; Delight Eze, one; and Okeke Favour, three.
He disclosed that the children reported missing have been reunited with their families .

“This achievement brings relief to the affected families and demonstrates our commitment to safeguarding children,” Danjuma said.

“We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to child trafficking or abduction. Your cooperation is crucial to preventing future incidents.”

He reassured residents of the command’s determination to eradicate child trafficking and related crimes in the state, promising continuous efforts to ensure a safe environment for children.
