Onanuga Taunts Opposition After ADC’s Poor By-Election Performance
Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga has mocked leading opposition figures following the African Democratic Congress’ (ADC) unimpressive performance in the recently concluded by-elections.
On Monday, Onanuga posted a photo of Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and Nasir El-Rufai on his X account with the caption: “How is the market now?”
The comment, widely seen as a political dig, comes as opposition figures weigh their options ahead of the 2027 general elections. Reports suggested that some of them had aligned with the ADC during the by-elections to gauge voter support.
However, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) won most of the contested seats, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) secured a few victories. The ADC, touted as a possible platform for a coalition, struggled to make any headway.
The outcome raises further questions about whether Nigeria’s opposition can form a strong alliance capable of challenging the APC in 2027.
