Offical date for WAFCON 2026 confirmed
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially announced the start date for the much-anticipated 2026 edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). This exciting development comes just a few weeks after the conclusion of the successful 2024 tournament.
In an official statement released by CAF, it was confirmed that the 14th edition of WAFCON will once again be hosted by Morocco. The competition is scheduled to run from March 17 to April 3, 2026, bringing together the continent’s top women’s national teams in a celebration of talent, strength, and competition.
The 2024 edition, also held in Morocco, ended on a dramatic note with Nigeria’s Super Falcons claiming the title after a hard-fought 3-2 victory over the host nation in the final. As reigning champions, Nigeria will head into WAFCON 2026 with the aim of defending their crown and further cementing their dominance in African women’s football.
Before the tournament kicks off, the final round of qualifiers is set to take place in October 2025. Nigeria’s Super Falcons are scheduled to face Benin in what promises to be a thrilling qualifying matchup.
An additional incentive has been introduced for the 2026 tournament, as the top four teams will automatically secure a place in the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. This provides even more motivation for participating nations to perform at their best.
Fans across Africa and beyond can now begin the countdown to WAFCON 2026, as the road to Morocco officially begins.
