Odumodublvck reveals how ‘Grooving’ with Davido came about

Nigerian rap sensation Odumodublvck has finally revealed the fascinating story behind the making of his explosive collaboration with Afrobeats megastar Davido and Afrobeat icon Seun Kuti — a record that fans have hailed as one of the boldest fusions of hip-hop and African rhythm in recent years.

In an interview that surfaced online on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, the Declan Rice hitmaker opened up about how the track — titled Grooving — was born out of Davido’s relentless persistence and an almost spontaneous studio connection that turned into a masterpiece.

According to Odumodublvck, the collaboration didn’t happen by elaborate planning but rather by Davido’s unshakable determination to make music together, even across different countries. “Davido called me when he was in London, saying, ‘We go record today oh!’” Odumodublvck recalled with a laugh. “Then he called again when he was in Ghana, still saying the same thing. I told him I was in Lagos, and he said, ‘Oh yeah, come today, come today!’ That’s how we finally made Grooving — an amazing record.”

The rapper revealed that Davido affectionately calls him “D-Rice,” a nickname inspired by his breakout single Declan Rice. That bond, Odumodublvck said, made their collaboration feel effortless once they hit the studio. “Davido’s energy was just something else,” he explained. “He’s the kind of artist who makes you want to give your best. The moment we got in, everything just flowed naturally — from the verses to the vibe.”

Despite Davido’s packed international schedule, the two artists managed to carve out time to record the electrifying single, which later made it onto Odumodublvck’s 2025 project, Industry Machine. The track has since become a fan favorite, celebrated for its vibrant rhythm, witty wordplay, and powerful blend of genres.

Odumodublvck also shared how the legendary Seun Kuti came into the picture, making Grooving an even more monumental collaboration. “After we recorded it, I sent it to Seun Kuti — son of Fela Anikulapo Kuti,” he revealed proudly. “That’s African legacy right there. It means a lot to me because I grew up listening to Fela. Now to have his son — a living icon — on my project, it’s like history coming full circle.”

He described Seun Kuti’s contribution as the “heartbeat” of the record — a blend of raw Afrobeat essence and modern swagger that pays homage to Nigeria’s musical heritage while still pushing its boundaries forward. “Seun didn’t just jump on it; he gave it life,” Odumodublvck said. “You can feel that same fearless spirit that made Fela a legend. It gave Grooving a timeless edge.”

With Grooving, Odumodublvck continues to solidify his position as one of Nigeria’s most innovative rap artists. The track seamlessly fuses his bold, streetwise lyricism with Davido’s Afrobeats charisma and Seun Kuti’s instrumental firepower — an intersection of generations, sounds, and legacies.

Fans and critics alike have hailed the record as a cultural moment — not just a song but a statement that connects the new wave of Nigerian music to its deep, revolutionary roots. Odumodublvck summed it up best: “Grooving isn’t just a jam; it’s a movement. It’s about unity, pride, and the power of collaboration. From Fela’s Afrobeat to Davido’s Afropop, to my rap — it’s all one Africa.”

Through Grooving, Odumodublvck celebrates more than just music — he celebrates the continuum of African excellence. From the streets of Lagos to the global stage, the rapper’s story and sound reflect a generation proudly carrying forward the rhythm of its ancestors while redefining what it means to be African in the modern era.
