Odumodublvck Opens Up About Backlash Over His Support for Peter Obi
Nigerian rapper Tochukwu Gbubemi Ojogwu, better known by his stage name Odumodublvck, has opened up about the emotional toll and personal backlash he experienced after publicly declaring his support for Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
In a recent interview, the Declan Rice crooner recalled a deeply personal encounter with the former Anambra State governor, during which he expressed the weight of online criticism he had faced for backing him during the tense election period.
“When I met him, I said, ‘Sir, good morning. Because of you, people are insulting me online.’ Everyone knows I publicly supported you,” Odumodublvck shared.
He clarified that his endorsement of Peter Obi was not motivated by politics but stemmed from genuine conviction. Despite the backlash from fans and members of the entertainment industry, he stood by his decision.
“I didn’t need Peter Obi to rescue me. I’ve even addressed it in my music. It takes courage for an artist to endorse a presidential candidate, and I definitely paid the price for that choice,” he said.
Odumodublvck also shared a poignant detail about his voting experience—while his father advised him against voting, it was his 68-year-old mother who insisted on accompanying him to the polling station to cast his ballot.
Now promoting his fifth studio project, The Machine Is Coming, the rapper emphasized that his connection with Peter Obi transcends politics. He views Obi as a fellow Nigerian entrepreneur, and he hopes for mutual support in growing his brand and vision.
“This is more than just music—it’s business. I’m building something meaningful, and I need the right people in my corner,” he concluded.
His candid reflections have reignited conversations across social media about the challenges Nigerian artists face when engaging with political discourse and public opinion in the entertainment landscape.
