Nuno Espirito Santo returns to the Premier League

West Ham United have announced the appointment of former Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo as their new head coach, following the dismissal of Graham Potter earlier this week.

The Portuguese manager has signed a three-year deal with the East London club, which will see him remain at the London Stadium until the summer of 2028. His first task in charge will be a Premier League fixture away at Everton on Monday, September 29, 2025.

Nuno arrives at West Ham just weeks after parting ways with Nottingham Forest. He was sacked on September 9 despite guiding the club to an impressive seventh-place finish in the Premier League last season—their best campaign since 1994/95. His achievement also secured Forest a place in the UEFA Europa League. However, his tenure was cut short after a breakdown in his relationship with the club’s owner, Evangelos Marinakis, and a poor start to the new season.

The 51-year-old was officially unveiled on Saturday and wasted no time getting started, overseeing his first training session with the Hammers squad ahead of Monday’s match. Speaking to the club’s official website, Nuno expressed his excitement at taking on the challenge.

“I am very pleased to be here and very proud to be representing West Ham United. My objective is to work hard to get the very best from the team and ensure that we are as competitive as we possibly can be. The work has already started and I am looking forward to the challenge that is ahead.”

Nuno brings with him a wealth of Premier League experience, having previously managed Wolverhampton Wanderers, Tottenham Hotspur, and most recently Nottingham Forest. His arrival is expected to usher in a new chapter for West Ham, as the club looks to stabilize after a turbulent start to the season under Potter.

With a proven track record of building competitive squads and guiding teams into European football, the West Ham hierarchy will be hopeful that Nuno can replicate his past successes and restore consistency to the club’s performances. All eyes will now be on Goodison Park, where he begins his tenure in what promises to be a closely watched debut.
