Angry Nigerians took to the streets on Wednesday, as depicted in images obtained by SaharaReporters. They called on the government led by President Bola Tinubu to address the severe hardships and unbearable inflation affecting them.
A witness reported an ongoing protest in the Suleja local government area of Niger State, emphasizing the demonstrators’ plea for Tinubu to alleviate the daily suffering experienced by the masses.
Earlier in the week, SaharaReporters had highlighted that hundreds of men, women, and youths in Minna, the capital of Niger State, also staged a protest against the escalating inflation in the country.
They expressed concerns about the rising prices of gas and fuel, blocking major roads to draw attention to the lack of government efforts in addressing the increasing cost of essential food items.
Videos captured the protesters chanting their grievances while law enforcement officers, including policemen, observed the situation.
In response to the protests, Yakubu Garba, the Deputy Governor of Niger State, acknowledged the pain and hardship experienced by families across the country.
He assured the protesters that the government was actively working to mitigate the cost of living and the economic challenges resulting from the removal of the petrol subsidy.
