Newcastle United Football Club in England has officially announced the signing of Danish-born Nigerian striker William Osula.

The club made the announcement through a statement on their website on Thursday, August 8.

Osula, who was born to a Danish mother and a Nigerian father, relocated to England at a young age. Although he has only played for Denmark at the junior level, he is eligible to represent Nigeria at the international stage.

“Newcastle United have completed the signing of striker William Osula from Sheffield United for an undisclosed fee,” the club’s statement revealed.

“The 21-year-old made 21 Premier League appearances last season and has also represented Denmark Under-21s on five occasions, including this summer when he scored a brace against Norway.”

Born in Copenhagen, Osula began his youth career in the Danish capital before moving to South Yorkshire, where he joined Sheffield United’s academy in 2018. He signed his first professional contract with the club in 2021 and enjoyed a loan spell with Derby County during the 2022-23 season.

Osula is versatile, capable of playing as a striker or on the flanks, and his arrival will provide additional options for manager Eddie Howe as the team prepares for the upcoming season.

Following the completion of his transfer to Newcastle, Osula expressed his excitement:

“I’m very happy to be here. It’s a big club, a great club, so I’m very happy for the opportunity to join Newcastle United.

“It’s a great opportunity, and as soon as I heard about Newcastle’s interest, I knew I had to take the chance to join this club if it came.

“It has come, and I’m really happy to be here.”
