A recent poll conducted just days before President Joe Biden’s announcement of his withdrawal from the 2024 race has provided insight into Democratic opinions on Kamala Harris potentially becoming the US president.

The poll, carried out by the AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research and released on Wednesday, July 17, reveals that approximately 60% of Democrats believe that Vice President Harris would perform well as president.

The survey indicates that most Democrats are confident that the country would be in capable hands if Harris were to take up the role in the Oval Office.

Specifically, 58% of Democrats think Harris would make a good president, while 22% disagree. The remaining 20% expressed uncertainty, stating they do not have enough information to form an opinion.

According to Mail Online, this contrasts with the broader public opinion, where only 30% believe Kamala Harris would be a good president, and 87% of Republicans think she would not be effective in the role.

On Sunday night, President Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the presidential race and endorsed Harris as his successor to challenge former President Donald Trump.

In his statement, Biden acknowledged that stepping down was in the “best interests of the country” and affirmed his support for Harris as the Democratic nominee.

Biden, who is 81, endorsed his vice president Kamala Harris to take over as the Democratic candidate for the November election.

In response, Harris pledged to be the one to “unite” the party and lead the charge against Trump.
