Mohamed Salah Shines as Liverpool Extend Premier League Lead Over Arsenal

Liverpool’s talisman, Mohamed Salah, played a crucial role in extending their lead at the top of the Premier League table to 11 points over Arsenal following a dominant victory against Manchester City at the Etihad.

The Egyptian forward showcased his world-class talent in the first half, scoring the opening goal and providing an assist for Dominik Szoboszlai’s strike. This landmark victory marks the first time the Reds have defeated Pep Guardiola’s side at the Etihad Stadium.

Salah netted his league-leading 25th goal of the season in the 14th minute, capitalizing on a corner with a powerful shot from the edge of the box. The strike deflected off City defender Nathan Aké, wrong-footing goalkeeper Ederson.

With this performance, Salah has now scored and assisted in 11 Premier League matches during the 2024–25 season—the most by any player in a single campaign across Europe’s top five leagues since Lionel Messi achieved the same feat in 2014–15.

Arne Slot’s side currently sit at the top with 64 points from 27 matches, while second-placed Arsenal trail with a game in hand. Manchester City, now in fourth place with 44 points, appear to be falling out of the title race in their pursuit of a historic fifth consecutive league crown.

What did Mohamed Salah say about the victory over Manchester City?

The Egyptian King expressed his excitement about the victory and confirmed that Liverpool are focused in winning the Premier League title this season ( 2024/25).

He said,

“I don’t know. It is opinion. Maybe people prefer my first seasons or now but I prefer now because winning the league, helping the young players, it is special. We need another title. Me and the big guys in the team, we need another title.”

Liverpool fans will hope they don’t get to bottle the league as they continue in their quest to win another league title.
